Education Program

To help ensure this problem doesn?t happen again, we believe in the power of education to change the way people think about the use of trees. When a generation is educated about reforestation, they can then see the need to help save the environment. And the combination of public education and reforestation is the key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

That is why we support the reforestation educational program developed by the Tropical Sierra Foundation and invite our site visitors to become sponsors of this program. The goal is to help school age children in countries where deforestation is occurring to understand the damage being caused. It also seeks to provide their families with tree planting work and better skills to replace the income they may lose from desisting in the harvesting of old growth rainforests. This two-fold approach has a positive socio-economic impact in the community and helps teach the next generation not to rely on forest destruction to earn a living.

The program is currently centered in Costa Rica and will expand into other Latin American countries as funding permits. Those who sponsor this program receive recognition on our web site (and the Tropical Sierra Foundation web site), in our newsletters and in the printed materials received by the students themselves. The students are invited to write letters and emails (if possible) to the sponsoring party (whether corporate or individual) to thank them for their help.

If you would like to help sponsor a school reforestation program the details may be found by visiting this link. The costs are minimal when compared with the satisfaction of helping an underprivileged family to understand the importance of helping our environment and learn a new way of living.
